What is va 174?

VA 174 (also known as Attack Squadron 174) was a United States Navy Attack Squadron that was based at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The squadron was established on June 1, 1972, and was in service until it was decommissioned on April 30, 1994.

During its service, VA 174 operated a variety of aircraft, including the A-7 Corsair II, the A-4 Skyhawk, and the TA-4 Skyhawk. The primary mission of the squadron was to provide advanced training to Navy and Marine Corps pilots going on to fly attack and fighter aircraft.

As part of its training mission, VA 174 conducted carrier qualifications, simulated combat missions, and other advanced flight training exercises. The squadron was renowned for its rigorous training program and high standards, and many Navy and Marine Corps pilots credit VA 174 with preparing them for combat operations.

After being decommissioned, the personnel and equipment of VA 174 were transferred to VA 46 and VT 7 at Naval Air Station Oceana. Today, the legacy of VA 174 lives on through the many pilots who trained with the squadron and went on to serve in the Navy and Marine Corps.
